Georgia Tech, or the Georgia Institute of Technology, is a public research university in Atlanta, GA. Widely recognized as one of the premier technology schools in the United States, Georgia Tech was founded 1885 as the Georgia School of Technology, and was initially part of the Reconstruction era, an effort by the U.S. government to build an industrial economy in the southeastern part of the country.
It is currently home to some 19,000 students, most of whom live in or around campus. The campus is in an urban, mid-town part of Atlanta, and its athletic facilities were used for the Olympic Games in 1996.
